And I am here...

So I have been in Kazakhstan for about 2 weeks now. It seems like most of that time has passed quickly as we've been in Peace Corps Informational sessions for the majority of that time, on every topic available. Oh and I can't forget about the 3 rounds of immunizations we have already received. In fact we were prepared for more this morning. We were told our PCMO, Dr. Victor was to visit, instead we were to view the STD and HIV/AIDS slides. I think most of us might have preferred more shots to some of those graphic images. =)

Yesterday we observed classes for the first time, only one in my group getting assigned to an English class. My first class was a home ec class for 8 grade girls and they proceeded to dress me up in robes and hats and take pictures, then I was shipped off to an 11th grade history class, went to another history class (I think) and then my class lost me so I was able to spend a few minutes on the internet yesterday. All in all an interesting experience of Kazakhstani classrooms. Classes only just officially began September 1st, and their first day of school reminds me a bit of Clausuras in Izamal. We were gifted with so many bouquets of flowers, even the boys!! Its just the thing to do here, so I have about 3 vases in my room. lol. And some more roses in the hall. =) Good times.

We continue with language lessons every day except for Sunday. And we will begin teaching small lessons and observing more English classes next Monday, and will find out permanent sites the first week in October, which is still a far way away yet ever approaching.

But I must be going, time is short and there are adventures to be had.

I'm off...

Well in a few hours anyway. I can't believe the time to leave is already here. Summer went as quickly as it came, and now I find myself wishing I had just a little bit more time. Not because I don't want to go, but because it's hard to leave. But alas I am packed - pretty much anyway =). But the paperwork is the most important. lol. My flight was supposed to leave at 6am but its been delayed and won't leave until 7:45am now. Hmm. And then I will be in DC until we leave on Tuesday, and then it's all Kazakhstan until November of '09. On that note, I will try to keep in touch but don't know how frequently that will be, so until then, adios.

If you want my address in Kazakhstan and don't already have it, then feel free to e-mail me!! =)

Countdown...

only 50 days left til i leave for staging. i can hardly control my excitement. =)

in other news, rc is home on leave and he's grouchy (what else is new though really) and stephie is supposed to be coming home for the weekend or at least for a day so that mom can be appeased by having all us kids home for last time in a few years. i'm assuming its only gonna get increasingly more difficult to get us all together in the years to come. hmm. food for thought.

pues, i suppose i must get back to being minorly productive at cleaning my room or something.

One step closer...

i'm surprised at how quickly the pc has processed my medical forms, in fact i only knew as of this morning they had approved me, and they only got the forms the other day, and today i had a call from my placement officer. ok well a message, i need to call back tomorrow, darn time zones. but anywho i can leave as early as august 19th instead of waiting until september, and if i went in august, they said i'd learn russian, which is what i want!!! ooh how exciting. i hope i can get more details in the morning when i try to call back..

Memories of the yucatán...

so instead of working on my papers for the moment, i've been trying to figure out how to upload a profile pic, and i think i have finally mastered it, however, now i have the same pic here. hmm, oh well, no way to get around it for the moment. =) alas, does make me miss the summer and the yucatan. ahh, chichen itza...

The waiting game...

graduation is less than a week away, and i find myself at my computer, listening to the rain, procrastinating. i have papers to write, things to do (aside from the fact that surely i should be in bed sometime soon). instead i'm sitting here pondering my post-collegiate life.

i found out last week that i received a nomination for the peace corps and after quite a few phone calls back and forth with the pc on wednesday, i should be heading to central asia in september to teach english. now i know nothing is definate yet, but it was kind of a relief to have a plan, to have made a decision, and to have something to look forward to. the problem now is that i'm looking forward into 4 months from now, instead of a week from now, which brings me back to the many papers i should be working on.
